The London based firm 6A Architects, have just finished a strong yet delicate new face for designer Paul Smith’s store in London. Cast Iron at its best, lays on top of an existing facade as a delicate skin which resembles her background and at the same time gives it an eclectic touch. Reveals on this hard material is man work and artistry, but the results give you the permanence and discreteness intended for delicate works such as this facade. The beauty of cast iron: the harsh age-showing of decay and the multiple shades of time it creates.
These architects worked hard on explorations for the type of aesthetics; they were aiming for the best one that could represent the designer’s identity. This first picture can give you an idea of the pattern exploration.
Can this door be more beautiful? Seamless camouflage between wood and cast iron, the negative of the reveals on the iron. Exquisite.
