My passion for materials has an array of possibilities. It is amazing how us humans alter our environment when thinking about better being and better design. An this eco-products are not the exception. Fashion Designer Pia Interlandi, has created a complete line of products designed specifically for the dead, for corpses! She has the whole package: garments that dissolve (made of silk, cotton lace, silk cocoons, hemp and organic cotton), Ecoffins (Decompostable coffins out of pine, bamboo, banana leaves or cardboard), Celestins (a capsule that incinerates when it reaches the atmosphere!!), she even has what she calls “Eternal Reefs”, which is an artificial reef created from cremated remains mixed with environmentally safe concrete with the purpose of creating reefs on the sea floor!

Everything here is an intention of preserving the environment with the preoccupation coming from the dressing of the dead with fit clothing with non-degradable materials. She experimented with pigs as a project testing for the dissolvable garment by burying 21 dead pigs and finding results with the fabric. Pia is really a materials explorer, I can’t wait to see what’s next!
